5 Ways to Prevent The Spread of Sickness on the Construction Site

As more and more men and women become sick with the new strain of novel COVID-19, workplaces are doing everything they can to switch to remote work and limit personnel count. Unfortunately, not every job can be done from home — and some construction projects can’t wait weeks or months for flu season to end.

Thankfully, there are a few basic steps every construction site manager can take to help keep his or her employees healthy. Institute these illness-fighting tips today to keep your site safer.

Instruct employees to stay home if they’re sick. The best way to keep employees safe is to urge them to stay home if they’re sick. The CDC recommends that anyone feeling sick should stay home except to receive medical care.

Keep commonly touched surfaces clean. Shared items like telephones, computers, and doorknobs can quickly spread disease if they aren’t kept clean. Wipe down these surfaces regularly with disinfectant.

Clean equipment at the end of every day. Most construction employees share expensive tools throughout the day, which can cause germs and viruses to spread. If you have CAT hydraulic hammers or Stanley hydraulic breakers that are shared among team members, remind employees to disinfect them each time they finish using them.

Wash your hands frequently. Washing your hands frequently with soap and water is one of the most effective ways to prevent illness from spreading. Provide employees with plenty of antibacterial soap and remind everyone to wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds. You may also want to provide employees with alcohol-based hand sanitizer if it’s available in your area.

Avoid touching your face. Remind employees not to touch their noses, eyes, or mouth. If an employee does need to touch his or her face (for example, to remove a contact lens), instruct him or her to thoroughly wash their hands before and after doing so.

As a construction site manager, the health and safety of your employees should be your top concern. If you have old or unreliable tools, you might be putting your employees at risk of an injury. Hydraulic Breaker Services is proud to carry a complete selection of affordable CAT, Stanley, Indeco and Kent hydraulic hammers and breakers to help you keep your team safe this season.
